چکیده

We report on the first astronomical observations with a photon counting pixel detector that provides arrival time-(δt = 100ns) and energy-(δE γ ≤ 0.15 eV) resolved measurements from the near IR through the near UV. Our test observations were performed by coupling this Transition Edge Sensor (TES) device to a 0.6m telescope; we have obtained the first simultaneous optical near-IR phase-resolved spectra of the Crab pulsar. A varying infrared turnover gives evidence of self-absorption in the pulsar plasma. The potential of such detectors in imaging arrays from a space platform are briefly described.

SRON ' s TES Microcalorimeter

The 15-year development of the European interpretation of the Transition Edge Sensor (TES) microcalorimeter is described within this document. In essence, a TES microcalorimeter is a high-resolution cryogenic photon detector that converts temperature changes induced by incoming photons into changes in electrical resistance. Conceptually, the device consists of an absorber, a detector, heat sink...

Phase-resolved Crab Studies with a Cryogenic TES Spectrophotometer

We are developing timeand energy-resolved near-IR/optical/UV photon detectors based on sharp superconducting-normal transition edges in thin films. We report observations of the Crab pulsar made during prototype testing at the McDonald 2.7m telescope with a fiber-coupled transition-edge sensor (TES) system. These data show substantial (δα ∼ 0.3), rapid variations in the spectral index through t...

Simulated Extragalactic Observations with a Cryogenic Imaging Spectrophotometer

In this paper we explore the application of cryogenic imaging spectrophotome-ters. Prototypes of this new class of detector, such as superconducting tunnel junctions (STJs) and transition edge sensors (TESs), currently deliver low resolution imaging spectrophotometry with high quantum efficiency (70–100%) and no read noise over a wide bandpass in the visible to near-infrared. In order to demons...

Very Low Noise Multiplexing with SQUIDs and SiGe Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors for Readout of Large Superconducting Bolometer Arrays

This paper presents an ultra low noise instrumentation based on a standard BiCMOS SiGe 0.35 μm ASIC operating at cryogenic temperatures. The main functions of the electronic circuit are the readout and the multiplexing of SQUIDs/TES. We report the cryogenic operation of the ASIC dedicated to the readout of a 2x4 pixel demonstrator array. We particularly emphasize on the development and the test...

Thermal detector model for cryogenic composite detectors for the dark matter experiments CRESST and EURECA

The CRESST (Cryogenic Rare Event Search with Superconducting Thermometers) and the EURECA (European Underground Rare Event Calorimeter Array) experiments are direct dark matter search experiments where cryogenic detectors are used to detect spin-independent, coherent WIMP (Weakly Interacting Massive Particle)-nucleon scattering events by means of the recoil energy. The cryogenic detectors use a...
